Whether you are evangelizing, chairing a board meeting on corporate transformation, or trying to convince your mother-in-law that one brand of laundry detergent is less damaging on the clothes than another, we have all faced people who will not see eye to eye with us. No matter how much empirical and anecdotal evidence you give them, they will not see reason and refuse to come on board. Have you ever wondered why that is? Why is it that even though they know they are clearly wrong, there are some people who will refuse to see eye to eye with you?

Well, beloved, there is a reason for that, and it lies in who we are.

“You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4

We are of God, because the moment we put out faith in Him, the moment we allowed Jesus to come into our lives and take over while we rest in His love, this happened.

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” John 1:12-13

We became children of God.

Now this status affords us special privileges, not the least of which is this.

“Because it has been given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been given.” Matthew 13:11

Some religions speak of the ‘third eye’. Atheists call it Extra Sensory Perception. Whatever it is, some people just seem to have that supernatural ability to ‘know’ things, don’t they? And sometimes, we are just like that too.

But for us, we don’t rely on voodoo. For us, we don’t rely on ‘ifs’ and ‘maybes’. For us, when we know, we know, because to us it has been given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven. It’s a bit like staring into 3D pictures and trying to see the dolphin jump over the moon. When we look at a situation, we are able to identify the pitfalls almost immediately, but for others, it takes a while. When we look at a situation, we can see the best and fastest route to the solution, but for others, it takes a while for them to even begin to digest just our suggestions. Now that, beloved, is our Father’s provision of wisdom and insight. That is what Jesus meant when He said,

“Therefore I say to you, whatever things you ask when you pray, believe that you receive them, and you will have them.” Mark 11:24

When you asked for wisdom, when you asked for insight, when you asked to be able to get out of the mess that you find yourself in, Jesus hears, and Jesus answers; and that is why you get the insight that you do, that is why you can see things others can’t, that is why you are always that little bit sharper than others are. For what indeed, is the mystery that has been given to you to know?

“The mystery in a nutshell is just this: Christ is in you, so therefore you can look forward to sharing in God’s glory. It’s that simple.” Colossians 1:27 [MSG]

That’s right, Christ is in you, Christ is beside you, Christ has gone ahead of you to mark out the pits and Christ is standing watch for enemies that come from behind you, just like He did for Israel when He took them out of Egypt. And because He is always with you,

“…do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak; for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of your Father who speaks in you.” Matthew 10:19-20

For our Father has promised,

“Fear not, for I am with you;
Be not dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you,
Yes, I will help you,
I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.” Isaiah 41:10

No, this does not make us psychic. It just makes us incredibly blessed.

And here lies the rub; because for those who have a hard time agreeing with us,

“They are of the world. Therefore they speak as of the world, and the world hears them.” 1 John 4:5

They do not hear us, because they do not believe in the foundation upon which our very lives are built.

For “We are of God. He who knows God hears us; he who is not of God does not hear us. By this we know the spirit of truth and the spirit of error.” 1 John 4:6

And by this we see the words of Jesus to still ring true today.

“Hearing you will hear and shall not understand,
And seeing you will see and not perceive;
For the hearts of this people have grown dull.
Their ears are hard of hearing,
And their eyes they have closed,
Lest they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears,
Lest they should understand with their hearts and turn,
So that I should heal them.” Matthew 13:14-15

“But blessed are your eyes for they see, and your ears for they hear;” Matthew 13:16

Indeed, blessed are you, for just as Jesus told Thomas,

“…Blessed and happy and to be envied are those who have never seen Me and yet have believed and adhered to and trusted and relied on Me.” John 20:29 [AMPC]

Because you have believed and adhered to and trusted and relied on Jesus, blessed are you because through His grace and providence, you see and you hear, more than anyone else does.

But how do we know that what we hear is true? Well, beloved, good question. And John gives us a simple test.

“By this you know the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesses that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is of God, and every spirit that does not confess that Jesus Christ has come in the flesh is not of God. And this is the spirit of the Antichrist, which you have heard was coming, and is now already in the world.” 1 John 4:2-3

It’s simple really. Any voice that makes you doubt that you are loved, that is not of God. Any voice that makes you doubt that you deserve our Father’s protection and provision, that is not of God. Any voice that makes you think that you are still a wretched sinner and that is why God is using your situation to punish you, that is not of God. For in doing so, they deny that Jesus bled to give you full remission of sins; they deny that Jesus died to free you of your penalty of death; so they deny that Jesus has come in the flesh; and therefore, they are not of God.

Now, that is not to say that all who do not agree with us are manifestations of the anti-Christ. Of course not. But what I am saying is that we should not be surprised when we come up against opposition, for because there are still people out there who have yet to put their trust in Jesus, there are still conduits for you-know-who to oppose us. So the opposition we come up against, which makes us doubt if we heard God right, are merely manifestations of that power.

Therefore, don’t be surprised when we come up against opposition. Instead, when we do face opposition,

“Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” 1 John 4:7-8

They may not love us, but they don’t love us because they know not the love of our Father. Yet,

“Beloved, if God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.” 1 John 4:11

Just like you would not fault a blind man for walking into you, so we should not fault our adversaries for coming against us since it has not been given to them to hear and to see the things that we do. Instead, if our love for them, in the face of their opposition, opens their eyes to the love of our Father, would that not be of greater glory to our Father? For do you think that while you are extending the love of Christ to them, your Father will allow you to be hurt?

Beloved, always remember that come what may,

“Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides in love abides in God, and God in him.” 1 John 4:15-16

And since Jesus is already in you and you are in Him, since you already know the love that God has for us, have every confidence to know

“…that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world.” 1 John 4:17

So some people don’t agree with you. That does not make you any less special. That does not make you any less loved. You have been given to hear, to see and to know. Take pride in those gifts and extend Christ’s love to those who come against you, for you are always loved by Him.
