WHEN DO I GIVE UP? NEVER.

WHEN DO I GIVE UP? NEVER.

“Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise:” Hebrews 10:35-36

Have you ever been filled with a deep desire to want to do something? Maybe it’s starting a food truck. Maybe it’s working with children. Maybe it’s going off to some remote part of the world and helping children and families better their lives. Whatever it is, when the passion hits, when the desire takes root, it is consuming, it wakes us up in the morning and keeps us up at night.

But have you ever realized that such passions often have very little to do with our day jobs. Very few people wake up in the morning and are dying to get into the office to read the sales reports, and even fewer people wake up in the morning and are dying to get into the office to see their bosses, … unless of course, they are seeing their bosses, if you know that I mean.

And that is the reason why very few of us ever act on our inner desires; because they are often altruistic. They are often seen by the world as an impractical wastes of time, and because of very practical reasons, many of us just cannot afford to follow those passions.

Not only that, when we look in on the lives of the few that do, we see that their paths are often fraught with challenges and suffering. Living in a slum while trying to impart skills with which the children can make a living is not an easy thing to do. Saving girls from the clutches of international prostitution rings is not a safe thing to do. Even just volunteering at your local shelter, trying to educate the kids who have dropped out of school and onto the streets, can often be a thankless task. And for those reasons, even those of us who have followed our calling get tempted to throw in the towel.

But beloved, if you are doing something that our Father has placed a passion in your heart to do; if that very thing you are engaged in gets you excited when you get up in the morning; if, despite the challenges that you are facing, you inexplicably get drawn to it each and every day; then no matter what the circumstances are, no matter what the world tells you, against your ‘better’ judgement,

“Do not, therefore, fling away your [fearless] confidence, for it has a glorious and great reward.” Hebrews 10:35 [AMP]

For you see, Jesus does say

“And behold, I am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to every one according to his work.” Revelation 22:12

What exactly that reward is, we don’t really know. But

“If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!” Matthew 7:11

So whatever it is, however it comes, we can be sure of one thing, it is going to be awesome.

Then why is it so difficult? Why do troubles abound? Why does it seem like doors are being closed each and every way we turn?

Well, beloved, the reality is Satan is constantly asking excessively that all who believe be given up to him and taken out of the power and keeping of God, that he might sift all of us like grain (Luke 22:31).

He wants to separate us from the love of our Father. He wants to take us away from the power and keeping of God, just so he can show us up. But because he has no right to pluck us from the hand of our Father, because, even for Job, Satan had to ask for permission before he was able to test him, that is why all he can really do to us is what he did in the spirit to Joshua.

“Then [the guiding angel] showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the Angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at Joshua’s right hand to be his adversary and to accuse him.” Zechariah 3:1 [AMPC]

Indeed, Paul was right when he said,

“For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:38-39

Because, remember beloved, when Christ died for you, it was because

“…He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21

So since, “He who did not spare His own son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him, also freely give us all things?” Romans 8:32

The only way that Satan can remove us from our Father’s care is if he is able to psych us into believing the lies that he puts in our heads, so that we decide to walk out of our Father’s power and keeping on our own. And if we do, our fates will be no different from Judas.

“Then Judas, His betrayer, seeing that He had been condemned, was remorseful and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, saying, “I have sinned by betraying innocent blood.”
And they said, “What is that to us? You see to it!”
Then he threw down the pieces of silver in the temple and departed, and went and hanged himself.” Matthew 27:3-5

But if we stay the course, if we hold the line, even though the lies will come thick and fast, the condemnation will be comprehensive and unrelenting, we will be just like Peter, because just like Peter, Jesus is saying this to you.

“And the Lord said, “Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren.”” Luke 22:31-32

But if our Father knows that Satan is always out to get us, then why does He allow it? Well beloved,

“For you have need of patient endurance [to bear up under difficult circumstances without compromising], so that when you have carried out the will of God, you may receive and enjoy to the full what is promised.” Hebrews 10:36 [AMP]

Remember beloved, of what value is patience?

“So that [the genuineness] of your faith may be tested, [your faith] which is infinitely more precious than the perishable gold which is tested and purified by fire. [This proving of your faith is intended] to redound to [your] praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ (the Messiah, the Anointed One) is revealed.” 1 Peter 1:7 [AMPC]

Patience comes from faith. If you do not believe that something is going to happen, you will not wait. If you do not believe that someone is going to come through for you, you will not wait.

It’s simple, really. Think about it. Your boss tells you that if you stick it out till the end of the year, you will get promoted in the December promotion exercise. But it’s now June, and you have gotten a comparable offer from a rival company. If you don’t believe that your boss is going to come through for you, you are going to jump ship, aren’t you? What becomes of the reward that was waiting for you in December then?

Beloved, put simply,

“Pure gold put in the fire comes out of it proved pure; genuine faith put through this suffering comes out proved genuine. When Jesus wraps this all up, it’s your faith, not your gold, that God will have on display as evidence of his victory.” 1 Peter 1:7 [MSG]

For the work that our Father has put in place for you, there is a reward. Now, this reward is not merely a place in heaven, not that that alone would not be a good enough reward. For Jesus does say,

“Blessed (happy, prosperous, to be admired) are those who wash their robes [in the blood of Christ by believing and trusting in Him—the righteous who do His commandments], so that they may have the right to the tree of life, and may enter by the gates into the city.” Revelation 22:14 [AMP]

So your place in heaven, your right to the tree of life is already secure because you believed in Jesus, you believed that He came to die for you; so that means that you have washed your robe in the blood of Christ.

Now, that means that when Jesus says,

“Behold, I (Jesus) am coming quickly, and My reward is with Me, to give to each one according to the merit of his deeds (earthly works, faithfulness).” Revelation 22:12 [AMP]

It means there is more than the mere free pass into heaven. There’s a lot more. And it is given to each one according to the merit of his earthly works. Isn’t that exciting?

And the trouble you are facing, the wait that you are having to put up with, that is just meant to enhance and augment the reward at the end, for always remember, it all happens,

Beloved, the beauty of our Father’s blessing is that it always comes first in things that money cannot buy. A loving spouse, a supportive family, happy and healthy children, and success where money can never be an influence. When our Father blesses, He makes it a point to show you that it is unmistakably Him. And then, He goes to work on the other things, so that in the face of trouble, you can look back at all that He has already done and know that He will come through for you.

So if you have been blessed to be able to do His will; if that gets you excited, if that gets you up in the morning and keeps you up at night, if that puts an inexplicable spring in your step and draws you to it each and every day; then keep at it despite the noise. Ours is a loving Father and He will never short-change you. Something awesome is coming. He is coming, and coming quickly, and His reward is with Him especially just for you.
