“Righteousness makes a nation great,
but sin degrades any people.” Proverbs 14:34 [CJB]

We are always building something, be it our families, our careers, our businesses, our companies or our ministries. Sometimes, we may even be building different things all at once. With time, these things become our ‘cities’. We dwell in them. We dwell on them. Their success delights us. Their trials torment us. But regardless of how things are going, our ‘cities’ are important to us. They become our own little ‘nations’ and we feel like ‘king’ of all we survey. So, unless you are a master builder and are familiar with the geography of the location, it makes sense therefore to entrust the planning and execution of such an important project to someone who knows what they are doing, right?

I mean, think about it. If you were building your dream home, would you simply throw a few pieces of drift wood together on a plot of land you fancied? Of course you wouldn’t. You would call the architect and have him conduct site surveys, take soil samples, draw up the drafts then engage the builders to construct your home according to his recommendations, wouldn’t you? And if he told you that you needed to reinforce your foundation because the soil is soft, would you tell him to go fish in a dry ditch? Would you tell him to go fly a kite if his architectural designs, though perfectly optimized for the climate and relief, did not meet your vision to a ‘T’? Of course you would listen, because the architect which you hired is the expert in the field and he has done all the site surveys and collected all the information. So he knows what to expect. He knows what is best.

So beloved, I have a question for you today. Why is it that we are often reluctant to listen to our Father’s recommendations for our lives? Do you not find it strange that we have no qualms accepting the advice of man, who despite their best efforts, can only make intelligent guesses on what could possibly happen; but we have such a big problem trusting in The One who says,

““I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End,” says the Lord, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.”” Revelation 1:8

“Who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them,...” Psalm 146:6 [AMPC]

The One who

“When He prepared the heavens, I was there,
When He drew a circle on the face of the deep,
When He established the clouds above,
When He strengthened the fountains of the deep,
When He assigned to the sea its limit,
So that the waters would not transgress His command,
When He marked out the foundations of the earth,
Then I was beside Him as a master craftsman;” Proverbs 8:27-30

Jesus and our Father have been in the construction business for a long long time. Look around you. Look at the sky. Look at the sea. Look at the grass, the trees, the birds. These were all made by The One who

“…created the heavens and the earth.” Genesis 1:1

Who said, ““Let there be light”; and there was light.” Genesis 1:3

Who said, ““Let the earth bring forth the living creature according to its kind: cattle and creeping thing and beast of the earth, each according to its kind”; and it was so.” Genesis 1:24

But most of all, why do we have such a big problem trusting our construction project to the one who said,

“Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” Genesis 1:26

Was His work bad? Was the quality of His materials poor? Of course not. For we know that

“Then God saw everything that He had made, and indeed it was very good.” Genesis 1:31

Now, I do not mean to make light of our worries. They exist and they are very real. I myself am not any more removed from problems than you are. Yet, if we stop, take a step back and think about this carefully, there can be no logical reason why, in the construction of the most important things of our lives, we trust the creation more than the creator. Unless… we believe that

He is a big meanie and doesn’t really love us; or
He does not exist, and all this that surrounds you right now is either a figment of your imagination or it came about through a cosmic explosive coincidence.

Now, if you believe the latter, there is really no point in carrying on this conversation because, quite honestly, since you believe that, you’ll believe anything; so one day, our Father will move and work the willingness and the belief in you to believe in Him and Jesus.

But if you belong to the former, then beloved, let’s talk.

In the very same sentence that our Father mentioned our creation, He lists very clearly why He wants to make us.

“Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” Genesis 1:26

To be dominated by the fish of the sea, the birds of the air and the cattle, over all the earth. Even the creeping things that creep on the earth. No, wait. To HAVE DOMINION OVER all those things. Sorry, must be too early in the morning.

And what comes after this verse?

“Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”” Genesis 1:28

God told us to wither and die. Be subdued by everything He created, everything that moves. No, wait. Oh right, BE FRUITFUL and MULTIPLY. Fill the earth and have dominion over everything. Right. And then what?

“And God said, “See, I have given you every herb that yields seed which is on the face of all the earth, and every tree whose fruit yields seed; to you it shall be for food.” Genesis 1:29

God told us that since He was already so worn out by creation, we should just go amuse ourselves and fend for ourselves. No, wait. He gave us every herb that yields seed and every tree whose fruit yields seed for us to be food. So God wanted us to be vegans? I knew that was coming. Not the point beloved, for our Father showed Peter this vision.

“…heaven opened and an object like a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending to him and let down to the earth. In it were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air. And a voice came to him, “Rise, Peter; kill and eat.”
But Peter said, “Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean.”
And a voice spoke to him again the second time, “What God has cleansed you must not call common.” This was done three times. And the object was taken up into heaven again.” Acts 10:11-16

All of creation came down on the proverbial platter for Peter. Now, read it however you like, but you cannot miss the fact that our Father is saying to us, ‘Here’s everything on a platter. Take your pick.’

So are we only given food? No, as if that was not enough, remember that

“A river went out of ‘Eden to water the garden, and from there it divided into four streams. The name of the first is Pishon; it winds throughout the land of Havilah, where there is gold. The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin and onyx stone are also found there.” Genesis 2:10-12 [CJB]

And where was man?

“Then the Lord God took the man and put him in the garden of Eden to tend and keep it.” Genesis 2:15

In the midst of all that luxury.

Beloved, one of the fundamental reasons why we find it difficult to completely trust our lives to our Father is because the world constructs circumstances around us to make us forget that we have a loving Father. Because the people we meet in the world mostly disappoint us, we think that our Father is going to as well. But beloved, remember that Jesus said,

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” John 10:10

And our Father promised through Jeremiah,

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declared the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 [NIV]

When you entrust your lives to Him, when you let Him work His will in your life, it cannot but turn out good. The devil will attack it, because after all, remember child of God, of His disciples Jesus said,

“Simon, Simon (Peter), listen! Satan has asked excessively that [all of] you be given up to him [out of the power and keeping of God], that he might sift [all of] you like grain,” Luke 22:31 [AMPC]

So that is why, even for us,

“sin crouches at your door; its desire is for you,” Genesis 4:7 [AMP]

“Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge,
Even the Most High, your dwelling place,
No evil shall befall you,
Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;” Psalm 91:9-10
“You shall not be afraid of the terror by night,
Nor of the arrow that flies by day,
Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness,
Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.
A thousand may fall at your side,
And ten thousand at your right hand;
But it shall not come near you.
Only with your eyes shall you look,
And see the reward of the wicked.” Psalm 91:5-8

“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High
Shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” Psalm 91:1

Beloved, remember Jesus’ advice.

“Therefore whoever hears these sayings of Mine, and does them, I will liken him to a wise man who built his house on the rock: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it did not fall, for it was founded on the rock.
“But everyone who hears these sayings of Mine, and does not do them, will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand: and the rain descended, the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house; and it fell. And great was its fall.” Matthew 7:24-27

Build your nation on the rock. Make Jesus your firm foundation. He has been there with our Father since the beginning. He knows the topography, geology, relief, climate and situation of your life better than even you do. But most importantly, He knows your tomorrow.

He has been in the construction business literally since the beginning of time so He does His work well. But most importantly, He loves you and He surely will never let any harm come to you. Don’t entrust your ‘nation’ to anyone else. Seek Jesus, for since

“…He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” 2 Corinthians 5:21

Through Him, our Grace given “Uprightness and right standing with God (moral and spiritual rectitude in every area and relation)” will elevate our ‘nation’ (Proverbs 14:34 [AMPC]).

Build on the rock.
