In Part One, we saw how to gain life, favor and wisdom. In Part Two, we will see how to gain Health and Wealth.

Health and Strength

“Do not be wise in your own eyes;
Fear the Lord and depart from evil.
It will be health to your flesh,
And strength to your bones.” Proverbs 3:7-8

Now this is an easy one. Heed the advice of your doctors and medical professionals, dietitians and nutritionists; and stay away from vices. If we take this literally, it would mean, drink less, smoke less, and that will undoubtedly benefit your body, would it not? Physiologically, if you stayed away from vices, you also reduce the risk of diseases of all kinds. So that is health to your flesh and strength to your bones.

But if we extend the analogy, we also see that in this teaching lies the secrets to psychological and emotional health. If we lie less, cheat less, gamble less, scheme less; it all helps to give us peace of mind too. So departing from evil is not just something religious people do; it has very real and tangible benefits for your physiological, psychological and emotional health and well-being. It is no wonder then that The Message presents these verses like this.

“Run to God! Run from evil!
Your body will glow with health,
your very bones will vibrate with life!” Proverbs 3:7-8 [MSG]

Indeed, run to God, for Jesus has borne your sicknesses and pain, both physiological and psychological so that you do not have to anymore.

“Surely He has borne our griefs (sicknesses, weaknesses, and distresses) and carried our sorrows and pains [of punishment], yet we [ignorantly] considered Him stricken, smitten, and afflicted by God [as if with leprosy].
But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole.” Isaiah 53:4-5 [AMPC]

Run from that which takes away peace of mind, and run to Him who gives you complete wholeness and restoration in the body, mind and spirit.

“Honor the Lord with your possessions,
And with the firstfruits of all your increase;
So your barns will be filled with plenty,
And your vats will overflow with new wine.” Proverbs 3:9-10

Wealth is a difficult teaching, because man does not understand how having to give back something is a blessing, and how it honors the giver. So let us consider how we deal with the gifts from our friends.

A friend comes over for Christmas and brings a bottle of wine. Would you not open it after dinner and share it all around so that the entire company may appreciate the gift and the giver gets his 5 minutes of glory? So similarly, when we receive from our Father, and we share it with those around, as He directs, everyone sees how wonderful He is, how powerful He has been in our lives, and how much He loves us. And not only will this give Him the glory and honor, your testimony will also give them tangible hope that our Father is a loving, providing, protecting Father. And as He has done for you, so too will He do for them. So not only are you honoring our Father, the giver, your gift also strengthens your brethren and brings them closer to God. And we know that,

“there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.” Luke 15:10

So that is how much honor you give our Father when you give.

In fact, our Father gives us this assurance that when we give, He will bless us even more.

“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be food in My house, and try Me now in this,”
Says the Lord of hosts,
“If I will not open for you the windows of heaven and pour out for you such blessing that there will not be room enough to receive it.” Malachi 3:10

Now, not only should we use what we have received to honor our Father, Jesus teaches us that we should also give of our firstfruits. That literally means, when we receive our increase, the first portions go to God.

But you see, many people merely see the action and not the intent. Remember that in Part One, our Father tells us to let our hearts keep the commands?

“My son, do not forget my law,
But let your heart keep my commands;” Proverbs 3:1

If you give begrudgingly, that is letting your body keep the command. That is not what our Father wants. So give only when it comes from the heart. Else, don’t.

Think about this. Who are we giving, really? Who is benefiting? God? Do we, like in some cultures, burn the dollar bills as a burnt offering to Him? No. People benefit. Our brethren benefit. So this is why Jesus can say to us on the last day,

“Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’
“Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? Or when did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.’” Matthew 25:34-40

Do not underestimate the impact that your giving can have. For beloved, it is not just about money.

“Honor God with everything you own;
give him the first and the best.” Proverbs 3:9 [MSG]

As long as it is your best, use your talents, your skills, your abilities to honor Him, in endeavors which He directs, and just like He did with the loaves and the fish, He will multiply it and feed the thousands.

So beloved, here are the secrets to Life, Favor, Wisdom, Health and Wealth. Believe that Jesus loves you and died for you so that now you are right with God because His shed blood gave you full and complete remission of sins. Then be merciful to those who ask mercy of you, for our Father has been merciful towards you. Then seek His ways and remember that all paths from Him must and can only lead you to the prosperous future that He has planned for you. Turn from evil and run to Jesus who has taken all the suffering and punishment you rightly should have borne for your sin, and given you full remission of sins and right relationship with our Father. And when you start to see the fruits of the life that Jesus redeemed for you and is leading you on, remember to pay it forward, so that it may show the world just how good and loving our Father is and in so doing, win lives for Him.

The search is over. The Grail is now in your hands. What will do you with it?
