We are often told,

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” John 3:16-17

And that

“He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God.” John 1:10-13

So now,

“If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is by believing in your heart that you are made right with God, and it is by openly declaring your faith that you are saved.” Romans 10:9-10 [NLT]

And because we are saved,

“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.” Romans 8:1

That means that,

“Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us.” 1 John 5:14

Because Jesus Himself said,

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these will he do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.” John 14:12-14

And one day, we will be with Him, enjoying Heaven’s glory because Jesus has said,

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” John 14:1-3

All these are some mighty big promises, and in the end, Jesus and our Father asks nothing of us but only to believe, just as it was said of Abraham,

“And he believed in the Lord, and He accounted it to him for righteousness.” Genesis 15:6

But how can this be? Are we reading it right? Is there a catch that we have missed? Beloved, no, you have not missed anything. That really is all Jesus is asking, and here is why.

“For He knows our frame;
He remembers that we are dust.” Psalm 103:14

We need to remember that Jesus and our Father were the ones that formed us to enjoy this world which they created, for it is said,

“Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” Genesis 1:26

So therefore, He also remembers how He created us.

“In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread
Till you return to the ground,
For out of it you were taken;
For dust you are,
And to dust you shall return.” Genesis 3:19

So as creator, He remembers what we are made of. As Father, He remembers that we are His children.

“You are of God, little children, and have overcome them, because He who is in you is greater than he who is in the world.” 1 John 4:4

Now, to borrow and paraphrase Jesus, which father amongst you would demand unrealistically from your children? So therefore how much less will your loving Father in Heaven demand from you?

You are His child, beloved. And of your substance, He is well aware. So fret not, for our Father is realistic. And even if you do fall, just as you forgive your children when they fall, so too will your Father pick you up, dust you off, give you a great big hug, and carry you on His shoulders again if and when you do fall.

But to the skeptics out there, crying out for a catch, here it is. We must remember that the salvation, reconciliation, redemption, right standing with our Father, and ultimately son-ship that Jesus came to give, is just that, a gift. You cannot earn it, you cannot merit it. No amount of good that you can do can change your nature.

“for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” Romans 3:23

If you want to merit your salvation and place is Heaven, even your blessings on earth, like the rich young ruler, Jesus has this to say.

“If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.” Matthew 19:21

That means give up not only your wealth, but also your fame, your status, everything you hold dear. Can you?

But you know what, Jesus said this not because He wants your fame. Unlike Jack Dawson, in Titanic, who felt like he was ‘the king of the world’, Jesus IS,

“Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6

And Jesus never needed you to give up anything in order to gain the gift of eternal life that He came to bring. Notice that He said give up only ‘If you want to be perfect’? Not ‘If you want my blessings’ or ‘if you want a place in heaven’? No, ‘if you want to be perfect’ on your own merit, not relying on His grace and mercy and redeeming work in the cross.

For if you truly want to be made perfect by His grace, all you need to do is this,

“I am Almighty God; walk before Me and be blameless.” Genesis 17:1

But to walk before God, means to let God guide you, let Him keep watch over you, that means acknowledging that you cannot but He can. So if you are looking for a catch, here it is, you have to be humble.

“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” 1 Peter 5:6-7

Three letters encapsulate man’s problem when it comes to salvation. These three letters are the reason why Jesus said,

“Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it.” Matthew 7:13-14

No, the letters do not spell, G-O-D, they actually spell, E-G-O.

Yes, there is only one way to Heaven, as Jesus said,

“I am the way, the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” John 14:6

But there is always room is heaven for anyone who would hear His call, for Jesus said,

“Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.” Revelation 3:20

Yes, ‘anyone’. And again,

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” John 3:16

Yes, ‘whoever’. And again,

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name:” John 1:12

Yes ‘as many as’.

Beloved, let us not make salvation, provision, protection and blessings difficult for ourselves because Jesus has made it very easy.

And if by chance you have been touched by the Lord and want to take Him up on His offer of everlasting life in Heaven; provision, protection and peace here on earth, yes it is that easy for you as well. Just say this prayer with me.

“Heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son Jesus to die on the cross for me. Thank you that by so doing, you are acknowledging that you remember that I am dust, that in and of my own strength, I can do nothing. And I acknowledge that too right now Father. I know I cannot so I claim the redeeming blood of Christ that washes me of all sins, past, present and future. That because of His resurrection and redeeming work I am now made whole and righteous before You. Thank You Father for making it so easy to come to You and so I come boldly into Your presence now, knowing that I am loved and cared for in Your presence. In Jesus' name. Amen.”

Put down your ego beloved child of God. There is no need for that anymore. Your Father will take care of everything, effortlessly. It is that easy.
