In the message Our Father Desires That You Be His Child, we saw how it is the will and desire of God our Father that we be His children. There we saw how Jesus revealed, through the apostle John, that being the child of God was our true self, and that we are truly God’s begotten. Now, every child knows that their parents will leave to them an inheritance and it is no different for our Father. We do indeed have an inheritance in Jesus for the apostle Peter tells us,

“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.” 1 Peter 1:3-5

Beloved, our inheritance is incorruptible and undefiled, it will not fade away. And from now till then, we are kept, by the power of God, so that nothing can prevent us from enjoying our inheritance. In fact, The Amplified brings out our security even clearer.

“Who are being guarded (garrisoned) by God’s power through [your] faith [till you fully inherit that final] salvation that is ready to be revealed [for you] in the last time.” 1 Peter 1:5 [AMPC]

We are guarded by God’s power. The omnipotent, omniscient creator of all things is the one guarding us till we receive our inheritance. And God does not tell you of your inheritance just to whet your appetite. He does not dangle a carrot and not tell you how to get it. He tells you clearly that you have the key. It is your faith. To you who believe, this inheritance is given. For you who believe, you are guarded till this inheritance is in your hands. And God tells you that there is a time when you will receive this eternal inheritance. It is when you finally inherit the final salvation.

Now, some people take this section of scripture and say therefore, that our salvation is not complete. Well, my friend, that could not be further from the truth. Our salvation is complete for the apostle Paul tells us,

“Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.” Hebrews 7:25

We are saved completely, comprehensively and more than that, we are saved once and for all.

“For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life He lives He lives to God. So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.” Romans 6:10-11 [ESV]

“For if we have been united with Him in a death like His, we shall certainly be united with Him in a resurrection like His.” Romans 6:5 [ESV]

So what then is the last time to which the apostle Peter is referring? The Message gives us a clear indication.

“What a God we have! And how fortunate we are to have him, this Father of our Master Jesus! Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we’ve been given a brand-new life and have everything to live for, including a future in heaven—and the future starts now! God is keeping careful watch over us and the future. The Day is coming when you’ll have it all—life healed and whole.” 1 Peter 1:3-5 [MSG]

There is The Day when we will have it all, life healed and whole and that day is the day when this promise of Jesus is fulfilled.

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” John 14:1-3

That is the day when Jesus comes to receive us to Himself.

Think about it. We live in a fallen world. We experience hurt, we experience fatigue. How can this current time be The Day when we have it all, life healed and whole? No, there is a day when we shall, as Shakespeare says, shuffle off this mortal coil, and enjoy life even more abundantly. But does that mean that in the meantime, we cannot enjoy God’s inheritance for us? By no means. Read again the passage.

“Because Jesus was raised from the dead, we’ve been given a brand-new life and have everything to live for, including a future in heaven—and the future starts now! God is keeping careful watch over us and the future.” 1 Peter 1:3-5 [MSG]

We have everything to live for, the future starts now, and God our Father is keeping careful watch over us and the future. Not just the future, us and the future. Not just keeping watch, keeping careful watch.

Beloved, you are indeed the beloved of our Father in heaven and He is right now, keeping careful watch over you. And one day He will bring us to where He is also, but for now, He is not stingy. He is a practical Father and He wants to meet your needs. He makes this very clear in the precedence that He has set.

To Abraham, He said this,

“Get out of your country,
From your family
And from your father’s house,
To a land that I will show you.
I will make you a great nation;
I will bless you
And make your name great;
And you shall be a blessing.
I will bless those who bless you,
And I will curse him who curses you;
And in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.” Genesis 12:1-3

God gave land, descendants, blessings in the natural and protection from those who would harm him.

To the nation of Israel, He promised,

“Enlarge the place of your tent,
And let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings;
Do not spare;
Lengthen your cords,
And strengthen your stakes.
For you shall expand to the right and to the left,
And your descendants will inherit the nations,
And make the desolate cities inhabited.” Isaiah 54:2-3

Even after Israel rejected God’s provision, He still gave them the blessings in Deuteronomy, chapter 28.

But most of all, Jesus promised us,

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these will he do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.” John 14:12-14

Beloved, you are the beloved child of God. You were His right from the beginning. But because of sin, you were estranged from Him. That is why the apostle Peter said that He has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Because you believe in Jesus, you have the right to the everlasting inheritance which God our Father is Himself guarding for you.

And if by chance this is the first time that you are hearing this and would like to return to your true self and receive the right to be a child of God, then pray this prayer with me.

“Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me so much that even before I knew You, You knew me. That even before I knew You, You already destined me to be Your child. Thank You for sending Jesus to die on the cross for me, that through His death and resurrection, I receive the right to be Your child. Thank You that through the shedding of His blood, I receive full and complete remission of sins. Thank You that I am now righteous in Your sight because of what Jesus did for me on the cross. I receive Jesus and His gift to be Your child. I return to my true nature and I come home to You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Beloved child of God, rejoice for indeed, we have something to live for. We have a future in heaven, and the future starts now. Be conscious of His love for you and start claiming Your incorruptible and undefiled inheritance.
