Signs and symptoms are all around us and we read into those signs to tell us many things. When we start sneezing, there could be a viral bug in our bodies. When we are running a fever, we might be suffering from an infection. We need signs and symptoms to alert us to what is going on around us. But do we miss the signs from our Father?

In Israel’s relationship with God, they have always wanted signs. When God met Moses, He came in the form of a burning bush. When He gave Moses the call to lead Israel out of Egypt, He gave him signs so that Moses could convince the people that he was indeed from God. From these signs, we can learn how our Father gently leads us day by day.

“So He said, “I will certainly be with you. And this shall be a sign to you that I have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you shall serve God on this mountain.” Exodus 3:12

God first gave Moses the sign of the destination. So they know where they were to be headed. From here we can see that our Father does not want us lost, He will always tell us where to go.

“And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’” Exodus 3:14

God then gave Moses the words for the time so that He could convince the people to listen. From here we can see that our Father will supply us the words for our time as well. If we are faced with a meeting, a situation where there are people to convince, He will supply the guidance. For He has said,

“But when they deliver you up, do not worry about how or what you should speak. For it will be given to you in that hour what you should speak; for it is not you who speak, but the Spirit of the Father who speaks in you.” Matthew 10:19-20

But do not go away thinking that our Father will only supply just as we need. If we need it, He will supply long before, so that our need is met. In the case of Moses, He told Him exactly what to say,

“Go and gather the elders of Israel together, and say to them, ‘The LORD God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, appeared to me, saying, “I have surely visited you and seen what is done to you in Egypt; and I have said I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt to the land of the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Amorites and the Perizzites and the Hivites and the Jebusites, to a land flowing with milk and honey.”’ Then they will heed your voice; and you shall come, you and the elders of Israel, to the king of Egypt; and you shall say to him, ‘The LORD God of the Hebrews has met with us; and now, please, let us go three days’ journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the LORD our God.’ But I am sure that the king of Egypt will not let you go, no, not even by a mighty hand. So I will stretch out My hand and strike Egypt with all My wonders which I will do in its midst; and after that he will let you go. And I will give this people favor in the sight of the Egyptians; and it shall be, when you go, that you shall not go empty-handed. But every woman shall ask of her neighbor, namely, of her who dwells near her house, articles of silver, articles of gold, and clothing; and you shall put them on your sons and on your daughters. So you shall plunder the Egyptians.” Exodus 3:16-22

Not only did God tell Moses what to say, He told him when to say it, to whom to say it, and what will be the result. What assurance our Father gives us!

Of course we know that the next set of signs that God gave Moses were the signs of Moses’ rod turning into a serpent, Moses’ hand becoming diseased, and the water turning to blood. So this tells us that our Father will supply our needs for the task that He has sent us to accomplish. For the apostle Paul tells us,

“And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Jesus Christ.” Philippians 4:19

When Jesus was on earth, He too was constantly giving us signs of who He really is. He healed the lepers (Matthew 8 and Luke 17), He healed the lady with the flow of blood (Mark 5), He raised Jairus’ daughter (Mark 5) and Lazarus (John 11) from the dead, and forgave sins. The message There Will Be Miracles When You Believe gives us even more examples.

And one would expect that after seeing all these signs and wonders, the people would believe. But alas,

“Then the Pharisees and Sadducees came, and testing Him asked that He would show them a sign from heaven. He answered and said to them, “When it is evening you say, ‘It will be fair weather, for the sky is red’; and in the morning, ‘It will be foul weather today, for the sky is red and threatening.’ Hypocrites! You know how to discern the face of the sky, but you cannot discern the signs of the times.” Matthew 16:1-3

Beloved child of God, our Father has given you many signs in the Bible. He has fed the multitudes, He has healed the sick, He has forgiven as many as would come. He has even given you the signs of His body and His blood in the Holy Communion and He has even told you explicitly,

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” John 14:1-3

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these will he do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.” John 14:12-14

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” John 3:16-17

“I come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” John 10:10

Therefore you just need to,

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!” Matthew 7:7-11

Beloved child of God, Jesus loves you and He has given you many signs to show you that He does. Don’t miss His signs. Take Him up on His offer of love, of peace, of forgiveness, of rightness with our Father, of provision and of protection. There is nothing that He will not do for you. Let Him love you today.
