In Part One, we saw how the Father wants us to pray prayers of protection and provision over ourselves. In Part Two, Jesus wants us to know that we need not be shy about asking. Jesus wants to supply so ask big. Let us start by looking at Jabez again.

“Now Jabez was more honorable than his brothers, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, “Because I bore him in pain.” And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!” So God granted him what he requested.” 1 Chronicles 4:9-10

Notice how long God took to answer Jabez prayer? Yes, in the same verse as it was asked. And Jabez was not shy in his request either. He asked for God to enlarge his territory. The Message translates it as “large tracts of land”. The Amplified translates it as “enlarge my border”.

Jabez was not shy now, was he? If heads of state made those kinds of prayer requests now, it would be tantamount to a declaration of war on their neighbors, greatly frowned upon by others. But God did not flinch. He granted Jabez what he requested. How cool is that?

And sometimes, it need not even be worded conventionally. Just an utterance will do.

“So David said to Nathan, “I have sinned against the Lord.”
And Nathan said to David, “The Lord has put away your sin; you shall not die.” 2 Samuel 12:13

David, when confronted with his sin of coveting Uriah’s wife and putting him to death by sending him to the front, uttered his repentance and God’s forgiveness came immediately, again in the same verse.

Beloved child of God, your heavenly Father is not stingy. He gives when we ask.

“For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.” Matthew 7:8

Note, He said everyone. Not some, not a few, everyone. And what will He give?

“But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Matthew 6:33

All these things. All. God is not stingy. He already gave you heaven’s best.

“He who did not spare His own son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him, also freely give us all things?” Romans 8:32

In fact, if we look carefully at how Jesus taught us to pray, we realize that He is teaching us to ask big of God.

“In this manner, therefore, pray:
“Our Father in heaven,
Hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.” Matthew 6:9-13

Jesus teaches us that we should ask for provision. Jesus teaches us to ask for forgiveness. Jesus teaches us that we should ask for grace and mercy. And Jesus teaches us to ask for deliverance from all evil. Now put your request, the biggest of your requests next to what Jesus has taught us. Doesn’t it pale in comparison?

The obstacles in life are like stage checkpoint challenges in games. Yes, bills need to be paid. Yes, the pain in your body is real. And your Father knows that you need these things (Matthew 6:32). But what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul (Mark 8:36)?

So if God has already settled the big things for us, how big can our requests get?

“Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink; nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. Now if God so clothes the grass of the field, which today is, and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, will He not much more clothe you, O you of little faith?
Therefore do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For after all these things the Gentiles seek. For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things. But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” Matthew 6:25-34

Beloved child of God, your heavenly Father loves You and has already given you all things. Anything else that you think He has not given you, just ask for it. Of course we cannot, should not, and if we are filled with His Spirit, will not ask for things that cause us to sin. And for all the other things, just ask, and ask big. Because Jesus loves to give. Our Father loves to give.

God promised the promises of Deuteronomy 28 to the children of Israel. And these promises have been quoted many times in the other messages. But the simplest and most beautiful of all God’s promises is this.

“And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.” John 14:13-14

Anything my friend, anything!!

So beloved,

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7

“Now may the God of peace who brought up our Lord Jesus from the dead, that great Shepherd of the sheep, through the blood of the everlasting covenant, make you complete in every good work to do His will, working in you what is well pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.” Hebrews 13:20-21
