Foreknowledge is very much a double-edged sword. Many people have their fortunes told in the hope of averting trials and heading toward better fortunes and better days. Conventional wisdom dictates that you avoid trouble when you can, especially when you have foreknowledge. But this is not the way of God.

“For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.” Romans 8:29-30

God foreknew our sins. Jesus foreknew the pain and anguish we would give Him. That is why He cried over Jerusalem as He was going in saying,

“Would that you, even you, had known on this day the things that make for peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes. For the days will come upon you, when your enemies will set up a barricade around you and surround you and hem you in on every side and tear you down to the ground, you and your children within you. And they will not leave one stone upon another in you, because you did not know the time of your visitation.” Luke 19:42-44

He knew that Israel would reject Him. And He knew the calamity that would befall the people because they rejected His protection.

Yet, He still gave man free choice and He respected and upheld the gift of free choice that He gave us. For since we are made in the image of God, and since God has the ultimate, free choice, we too have the right to choose how we want to live our lives. And twice God our Father gave us charge over all the earth. First to Adam,

“Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.” Genesis 1:28

Then to Noah,

“So God blessed Noah and his sons, and said to them: “Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth. And the fear of you shall be on every beast of the earth, on every bird of the air, on all that move on the earth, and on all the fish of the sea. They are all given into your hand.” Genesis 9:1-2

Despite man screwing things up the first time around, and let sin into the world, our Father still gave control and dominion back to us after cleaning things up. That is how much He values and respects the free choice that He gave us. And all this despite foreknowing that we would still sin against Him, rebel against Him every opportunity we got.

It is very much like how, when we as parents, give our child a toy, and despite our beloved child wrecking it, dirtying it, and we having to clean up after him time and again, we still give it back to him because we know it brings him joy to play with it. Our Father’s love is very much like that, only infinitely deeper.

Because not only did He know we would sin against Him time and again, He knew that He would have to send His only begotten Son into the world to die for us. Yet He still respected the free choice, at Jesus’ expense. That is how much truly does our Father love us, and more.

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” John 3:16-17

And God did not do all that begrudgingly, He added on blessings unconditionally on whomever who would believe on Jesus.

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these will he do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.” John 14:12-14

And not only does our Father want to bless us, it glorifies Him when we are blessed. He also puts no limits on the blessings He has for us. He says, “Anything.” Not only that, He wants us to be where He is, and says that He will receive us to Him.

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” John 14:1-3

The word ‘receives’ speaks of a king taking audience in His court and leaves no doubt over His heavenly royal line and for The King to prepare a place for us… If that does not leave you in awe of His love, there is probably nothing else that will.

Beloved child of God, what will you do if you had foreknowledge? Would you still reach out to the very people who will hurt you? Will you still do good unto them? Or would you avoid them like the plague?

Jesus foreknew our fallen nature. But He never left us nor forsook us. Instead He says,

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declared the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11 [NIV]

The New King James Version translates it like this,

“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.” Jeremiah 29:11

Oh what a friend we have in Jesus, all our sins and grief He bore. What a privilege He has given us that we can carry, everything, yes everything to God in prayer.

Our heavenly Father loves you with an unfathomable, unimaginable love. All He wants is to love you today.

And if by chance you have just learnt about His deep love for you today, and would like to respond to His call of love, say this prayer with me,

“Heavenly Father, thank You for loving me with such a deep and unimaginable love. Thank You that despite knowing that I would sin against You, run away from Your presence, You sent Your only Son, Jesus, to die on the cross for my sins. Thank You that by His body broken, I can now receive health, healing and wholeness for my body. Thank you that by His shed blood, I now receive the complete remission of my sins. Thank You for making me right with you so that I can enjoy the bountiful and countless blessings that You have in store for me. And Father, thank You most of all for loving me so much that You would reach out to me despite my willfulness, so that right now, I can be right with You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”

Beloved child of God, Jesus loves you. Our Father loves you. And best of all, He loves you in spite of you. He foreknew you, He predestined you, He called you, and He will glorify you. Live in His love today.
