Loss is something that we never get used to. Losing a loved one, having a marriage fail, losing a child, suffering loss at the work place, always fills us with a sense of emptiness. But friend, Jesus wants you to know that even though the world takes things away from you, you will never lose Him. For He said,

“Be strong and of good courage, do not fear nor be afraid of them; for the Lord your God, He is the One who goes with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you.” Deuteronomy 31:6

Jesus leaves us a very poignant example from which to understand how He stays with us. When he knew that His time had come and He had identified His betrayer in the upper room, He said to His disciples,

“Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.” John 14:1-3

Jesus starts by assuring us of our heavenly future. He has gone ahead and prepared the way for us in the most important area of our lives, our eternity.

“For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?” Mark 8:36

So Jesus first assures us of our eternal future; that it has already been secured in Him.

Then Jesus assures us of His provision, here and now.

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these will he do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.” John 14:12-14

What blessed assurance. Not only is our heavenly future secure, our provision, our talents, here and now, Jesus will see to them all personally. And because He is now with the Father, we get even more through His intercession for us.

What a loving Father we have. It is as if He knows that such good news we find it difficult to understand or comprehend, so He repeats Himself, If you ask anything in His name, He will do it.

And you know what? We never need fear that one day we can lose this blessing. For it is not because the Father is pleased with us that we get the blessings, we get the blessings because it pleases the Father TO GIVE! His being pleased is not the pre-requisite for our blessings. His being pleased is the RESULT of blessing us!

After Jesus assures us of our heavenly future, and assures us of His present help, He then gives us a helper in the Holy Spirit, who will teach us and imbue in us the wisdom that is from God. For Jesus says,

“But the helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things, and bring to your remembrance all things that I said to you.” John 14:26

So not only do we have a secure heavenly future, success presently, we also have His wisdom to be good stewards of His blessings. And finally, God gives us rest and restoration.

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27

The Message translates it in an even more concrete manner.

“I’m telling you these things while I’m still living with you. The Friend, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send at my request, will make everything plain to you. He will remind you of all the things I have told you. I’m leaving you well and whole. That’s my parting gift to you. Peace. I don’t leave you the way you’re used to being left – feeling abandoned, bereft. So don’t be upset. Don’t be distraught.” John 14:15-27 [MSG]

Beloved child of God, Jesus has secured your heavenly future, He is also your present help, He has also given you the Holy Spirit to guide you in your daily steps, now He has made you well and whole. There is no more abandonment. There is no more reason to be upset.

Whatever you have lost, know that the great Restorer, Jesus, has never left you, nor will you ever lose Him. He is restoring you even as you are reading this. He will always leave you well and whole. Lean on Him and find rest in Him.
