“Comfort, oh comfort my people,” says your God.
“Speak softly and tenderly to Jerusalem, but also make it very clear
That she has served her sentence, that her sin is taken care of – forgiven!
She’s been punished enough and more than enough, and now it’s over and done with.” Isaiah 40:1-2

The prophet Isaiah said this to God’s people when announcing the coming of our Lord, God’s Son, Jesus. What wonderful gifts Jesus comes to bring! Comfort to all His people! But in that same breath, He also comes so that our sins are forgiven. In the work which Jesus came to do, in the price that He paid on that cross, God’s wrath on our sins has been fully satisfied and that is why Isaiah says that we have served our sentence, been punished enough and more than enough and now it is over and done with. What a blessed revelation from our heavenly Father!

Prior to this chapter, Israel did nothing to atone for their sins. Prior to this, they were not punished. Yet God esteems His people forgiven. So clearly it was not by His people’s works or actions that they earned their forgiveness. It was through Jesus’ death on the cross. In the same way, we have not been punished, nor have we earned our forgiveness, but because of Jesus’ death on the cross, our sins are taken care of – forgiven!

And if we accept this gift of salvation, this is what has been promised us.

“Have you not known?
Have you not heard?
The everlasting God, the Lord,
The Creator of the ends of the earth,
Neither faints nor is weary.
His understanding is unsearchable.
He gives power to the weak,
And to those who have no might He increases strength.
Even the youths shall faint and be weary,
And the young men shall utterly fall,
But those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength;
They shall mount up with wings like eagles,
They shall run and not be weary,
They shall walk and not faint.” Isaiah 40:28-31

Are you weak and heavy laden? Cumbered with a load of care? Jesus meets your every need. He gives you vitality. He raises you up from lowly places. He also feeds you and sustains you and causes you to bear fruit.

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord,
And whose hope is the Lord.
For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters,
Which spreads out its roots by the river,
And will not fear when heat comes;
But its leaf will be green.
And will not be anxious in the year of drought
Nor will cease from yielding fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7-8

Indeed our God justifies, our God energizes, our God feeds, our God blesses, and finally our God protects.

“Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion,
Which cannot be moved, but abides forever.
As the mountains surround Jerusalem,
So the Lord surrounds His people
From this time forth and forever.
For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest
On the land allotted to the righteous,
Lest the righteous reach out their hands to iniquity.
Do good, O Lord, to those who are good,
And to those who are upright in their hearts.
As for such as turn aside to their crooked ways,
The Lord shall lead them away
With the workers of iniquity.
Peace be upon Israel!" Psalm 125

So then beloved blessed child of God, it behooves us to trust in the Lord for in Him, all our needs are met. Look away from your challenging situation and look to Jesus, for He has justified you and made you eligible for ALL His blessings. Let Him meet your needs today!
