The apostle Paul writes for us the material which perhaps is most commonly used as the basis of any marriage preparation class. But as we look at the instruction that Paul gives, we can also see the love and sacrifice that Jesus has made for us.

“For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.” Ephesians 5:23

Jesus saves us. Jesus saves our souls, Jesus also saves our bodies. As He has said,

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved.” John 3:16-17

And, “I come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” John 10:10

“Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these will he do, because I go to My Father. And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.” John 14:12-14

So, “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man is there among you who, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will he give him a serpent? If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!” Matthew 7:7-11

Jesus has redeemed us and because of that, Jesus can, will and deeply wants to supply your needs and rain blessing upon your life. There is nothing that you could have done to merit this. It was all His doing. And when you accepted Him as your Savior, you received all the redemption and restoration freely from him!

Next, Jesus cleanses us and makes us righteous.

“Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, that He might present her to Himself a glorious church, not having spot or wrinkle or any such thing, but that she should be holy and without blemish.” Ephesians 5:25-27

Not only has Jesus paid the penalty for our sins so that we do not have to anymore, Jesus cleanses us, sanctifies us and restores us to the glory of His image in which we are made. For it is written,

“By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once and for all.” Hebrews 10:10

“For by one offering, He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.” Hebrews 10:14

“then He adds, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” Hebrews 10:17

“Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.” Hebrews 7:25

It is very much like the man who found the pearl of great value hidden in the ground. Not only does the man dig the pearl out from the ground, he washes it, polishes it and places it in a place of great honor so that all may see that the pearl has been found and is now gleaming in the glory that it was made to have.

In the same, Jesus, when he found us, not only dug us out from the ground through His sacrifice on the cross, His shed blood washed us clean and now we are gleaming in the glory that He purposed for us to have in the first place when He made us.

So, “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31

“Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.” Romans 8:33-34

“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:37-39
