The psalmist David says of God in Psalms 32,

“You are my hiding place;
You shall preserve me from trouble;
You shall surround me with songs of deliverance.” Psalms 32:7

Indeed, God is our hiding place. In Him we can find refuge.

When Israel was in bondage in Egypt, during the time of Moses, God heard His people’s cry and delivered them from slavery. God is a God of deliverance. He sees you today and He hears you and my friend, He wants to deliver you.

David says,

“Blessed is He whose transgression is forgiven,
Whose sin is covered.
Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity,
And in whose spirit there is no deceit.” Psalms 32:1-2

Beloved child of God, the blessed whom David is describing, is you. Just as Isaiah said,

“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our guilt and iniquities; the chastisement [needful to obtain] peace and well-being for us was upon Him, and with the stripes [that wounded] Him we are healed and made whole.” Isaiah 53:5 [AMPC]

Jesus carried our sins on the cross. He paid the price for our sins and satisfied God’s righteousness with respect to sin. And because God imputed our sins to Christ when He died on the cross, our sins can never be imputed to us again. That is why we today have our transgression forgiven, and that is why we are considered blessed.

Sometimes this realization is not very apparent because the road of deliverance is not smooth. But friend, Jesus has a plan. It is revealed to us this insight into the events surrounding Israel’s exodus from Egypt,

“Then it came to pass, when Pharaoh had let the people go, that God did not lead them by the way of the Philistines, although that was near; for God said, “Lest perhaps the people change their minds when they see war, and return to Egypt.” So God led the people around by way of the wilderness of the Red Sea. And the children of Israel went up in orderly ranks out of the land of Egypt.” Exodus 13:17-18

God is well aware of the quickest way out. But He is even more acutely aware of how His people will respond. Is it not so wonderful that not only does God deliver us, He delivers us in the way, manner and form that suits us the best! He anticipated Israel’s fears and concerns and He led them away from that, even though they had not realized it yet; and in the same way, so too is He leading you today, away from what He knows will shake your faith, even though you’ll probably never know it.

But what is even more wonderful to consider, is the fact that Jesus never left Israel alone after He had delivered them.

“And the Lord went before them by day in a pillar of cloud to lead the way, and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so as to go by day and night. He did not take away the pillar of cloud by day or the pillar of fire by night from before the people.” Exodus 13:21-22

He was always there with the people, leading the people, every moment of the day. And to top it all off, He provided food for Israel as they crossed the wilderness. So in the same way, Jesus, as He leads you, will provide for you every step of the way, and He will never leave you.

Beloved child of God, we need to realize that we live in a fallen world. The fallen elements all conspire to pull us away from His goodness and mercy. Just like a child who is walking down a dark alley with his father. It’s not his father’s will that the alley is dark. It was already dark to begin with. So in the same, it is not God’s will that your environment be dark, your circumstance be challenging, it was already dark to begin with.

But just like the child will simply cling to his father, better yet, have his father carry him through the dark alley, so too can we depend on our heavenly Father to carry us through. All we need to do, as the apostle Matthew says, is ask.

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be open to you.” Matthew 7:7

Friend, the Lord says,

“”Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit,” says the Lord of hosts.” Zechariah 4:6

Jesus is your hiding place. Jesus is your refuge. Come and hide under His wings today. Come and be protected. Come and find rest.
