In life we are always looking for guarantees. When we make investments, we want a guarantee on our principle sum. When we buy household goods, we want a guarantee against manufacturing defects. Shopping channels often entice customers with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

A guarantee is essentially a backing. As insurers will tell you, a policy is only as good as its underwriters, a cashiers’ check, only as good as the person behind its John Hancock. But alas, man is imperfect and therefore our word is imperfect. Despite the best of intentions, our human frailty makes it such that our mouths write checks our bodies can’t cash.

Indeed, with man, we don’t even live up to our word sometimes, much less are we able to earn our salvation. That is why when Jesus’ disciples asked Jesus who can be saved,

“…Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Matthew 19:26

So who then is God? Why is it that with God, all things are possible?

The apostle John tells us that,

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made. In Him was life, and the life was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not comprehend it.” John 1:1-5

So here are 3 aspects to God’s credentials.

1. He was here even before time began.
2. All things were made through Him.
3. He contains life, and so implicit in that, is the fact that God gives life.

Simply put, God is the originator of all things. He made the original. And because,

“… God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” Genesis 1:27

He IS the original. We are merely copies made in the image of the original.

So in the same way that you would always go back to the manufacturer when you have a problem with a product, it only stands to reason that we should go back to the manufacturer when we have a problem with this product, ourselves. Who better to repair us, replace our broken parts, restore us to the glory which He originally purposed us to have than the original manufacturer Himself? Surely we would not take an expensive pair of shoes to the street cobbler to have them mended. How much more do we truly value ourselves?!

My friend, Jesus is your guarantee. Whatever He promises, He will deliver. Not because of who we are, but because of who He is. Take Him at His word. Claim His promises for your life today.
