Have you ever felt accused? Like you don’t measure up? Have you ever felt like you let God down? If you have, you are not alone.

During the time when Israel was in exile in Babylon, the prophet Zechariah records for us the vision he had of Joshua, the then high priest of Israel, standing before the Angel of the Lord. Incidentally, Satan was also there, standing at his right hand opposing him.

Zechariah chapter 3 verse 3 records for us that Joshua was clothed in filthy garments; a sign of the accusations and ‘dirt’ that Satan was piling onto Joshua because of Israel’s rejection of God, His blessings and provision.

Yet, despite Israel’s disobedience, note how The Lord responded to Satan when Satan tried to accuse Joshua,

“The Lord rebuke you, Satan! The Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is this not a brand plucked from the fire?” Zechariah 3:2

In the same way that God reminded Peter, through the vision, not to call anything that He has cleansed, unclean, God defends His chosen High Priest, despite the sins of His people and rebukes Satan who is trying to accuse him.

What a joy that should fill our hearts when we read our Savior's response! Not only did God not make Joshua answer for the accusations, God defended Joshua and rebuked the accuser. How will He not also do the same for us, now that we have been saved through His Son’s sacrifice?

But God did not stop there. No.

“Then He answered and spoke to those who stood before Him, saying, “Take away the filthy garments from him.” And to him He said, “See, I have removed your iniquity from you, and I will clothe you with rich robes.”” Zechariah 3:4

God removes the guilt and shame of our sin through the shedding of Jesus’ blood on the cross and puts on us “rich robes”, restoring to us the glory and honor that Jesus came to bring to us.

And finally, God orders in Zechariah chapter 3 verse 5, that a clean turban be put on Joshua’s head, crowning Joshua and restoring to him his position as priest. So too will God crown us with the honor and glory that His salvation brings.

Don’t let yourself be made to feel like you have let God down. Remember that whatever happens, Jesus is always in your corner, backing you up, standing up for you. For the apostle Paul revealed to us that,

“There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit.” Romans 8:1

So “What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?” Romans 8:31

“Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.” Romans 8:33-34

“Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Romans 8:37-39

So start living the redeemed life that Jesus died to give you. A life free of condemnation. A life full of His blessings, honor and glory. See God’s love alive in your life today.
